I finished university with some idea of what I wanted to do; I wanted to write. I approached the retail company again and, cliff-notes version, I was successful and stayed with them for eight years. First as an assistant and finally Assistant Editor, creating their weekly in-house magazine. It was a combination of writing, interviewing, designing and photography, and I gained a lot of skills from that role.
A combination of maternity leave and redundancy led me to 2015 and a place, yet again, of uncertainty for my future. My son, then two, was preparing for nursery (well, he actually didn't have a clue, so it was me preparing anxiously for the next step in our lives), while I contemplated what the next personal step was for me... I had been out of work for over a year.
Queue a group of special friends and a milestone birthday. I was gifted with a kindle and a laptop and my passion was ignited once again. I joined an amazing on-line book club, where I had the chance to talk to authors about their books, receive advance reader copies and converse with an inspirational bunch of people. Not only was I reading a novel every fortnight, but the ideas were bubbling inside of me and I wanted to write again.
I'm writing this a year on, it's now January 2016, and I feel excited and hopeful about my future. In the last six months I have found a mentor and friend in NY Times and USA Today best selling author, Mel Comley and we have penned a novella together, Web of Deceit. We are also planning a new crime series together and hope to release later this year. My debut novel, In The Shadows, is in the processing of editing and will be released very soon. I'm writing, reading, blogging and enjoying every single minute of it. It is a dream come true.
